Waiting
The surface is smooth,
Holding together,
Yet, like birds and creatures
of forest and plain,
I sense unseen turbulence.
The air is uneasy
The quiet full of noise
Creaking, tearing, moving.
Watchful, alert and reading the signs
Sleep is light
Waking is instant,
Another day safe and unsafe
